The last of the traditional MGs
The MG T-Series in 1955
1955 is the final year of the T-Series. TF 1500 production ended and the MGA replaced it, closing nineteen years of ash-framed, separate-chassis MG sports cars. A 1955 car is an XPEG TF 1500 — the largest engine and the last development of the line.

Production notes
- TF production ran from October 1953 to 1955, when the MGA took over and the traditional T-Type shape was retired.
- Every 1955 car is beyond chassis 6951, the 10 September 1954 point from which the XPEG ran to the end of production.
- Approximately 3,400 TF 1500s were built in total.
Engine and chassis traits
XPEG TF 1500
1,466 cc, the largest T-Series engine, with the XPEG prefix stamped on the block. Confirm the prefix in person: XPAG-engined cars are frequently described loosely as TF 1500s.
Independent front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering
The TD's box-section chassis carries coil-and-wishbone independent front suspension derived from the Y-Type and rack-and-pinion steering, on bolt-on 15 in disc wheels with 5.50–15 tyres. Look underneath at the frame below the rear spring hangers, where TD cracking is well documented.
Reading the numbers on a 1955 car
- Chassis: TF numbers well above 6951.
- Engine: XPEG. Anything else on a car sold as a 1955 TF 1500 means the engine has been changed.
