TA in full production
The MG T-Series in 1937
1937 was a full year of MG TA production, the car unchanged in essentials: the 1,292 cc MPJG pushrod engine of around 50 bhp, the oil-immersed cork clutch, a beam front axle and an ash-framed body. The TA ran on to 1939 and around 3,003 cars in total.

Production notes
- No model change was announced for 1937; the TA continued as introduced.
- Because MG published no per-year production split for the TA, a 1937 build is established from the factory record rather than from the chassis number alone.
Engine and chassis traits
MPJG engine and oil-immersed clutch
A car of this year carries the 1,292 cc MPJG pushrod engine from the Wolseley 10, around 50 bhp, and the oil-immersed cork clutch peculiar to the TA. Both are the quickest way to tell a TA from the XPAG-engined cars that followed.
Beam axle chassis, ash-framed body
Beam front axle on semi-elliptic springs, cable-operated Bishop cam steering practice of the period, and a timber-framed body tub. Nothing of the independent front suspension or rack-and-pinion steering of the later TD is present.
Reading the numbers on a 1937 car
- TA chassis prefix, MPJG engine prefix.
- A car of this age may well carry a later XPAG engine — an extremely common substitution. That does not make it a TB.
